What is ProwessIQ?
ProwessIQ is an interactive querying system to find companies from the Prowess database. It consists of a client software that provides an interface to construct and submit queries over the internet to the Prowess database and receive answers to the queries from the database.
ProwessIQ therefore is all about interactive querying of the Prowess database.
All queries in ProwessIQ aim at finding companies that match a given set of search conditions. The ProwessIQ interface therefore consists of a large number of query construction facilities, display of query results in spreadsheets and the further use of the results of queries.
The Prowess database consists of the financial performance of Indian companies. The database contains information on all listed companies and a larger set of unlisted companies. The database is built from the audited Annual Reports of companies and information submitted to the Ministry of Company Affairs; and in the case of listed companies, the database also includes company filings with stock exchanges and prices of securities listed on the major stock exchanges.
The client server is developed and maintained by CMIE. Similarly, the Prowess database is also developed, maintained and updated by CMIE.
The Prowess database is updated continuously by CMIE. ProwessIQ accesses this updated Prowess database.
ProwessIQ User Interface
ProwessIQ is accessed through a software installed on a local computer running Microsoft Windows OS. This is a windows executable developed by CMIE specially to access the Prowess database. The Prowess database itself resides on CMIE’s servers.
The local installation includes the ProwessIQ executable and several dlls that are components used by the exe. Upgrades to the software are available on http://prowessiq.cmie.com. These can be downloaded for free and installed at any time.
The user interface of ProwessIQ is designed to enable the user to query the database easily and when required, even intensively. Querying is the most powerful and versatile feature of ProwessIQ. Besides querying, ProwessIQ is also a very convenient way to generate scores of analytical tabulations and to plot interactive charts of individual companies.
The ProwessIQ user interface is highly specialised. It is interactive. It is designed to deliver the power to query the database directly to the end-user of the database. The querying system permits a step-by-step iterative process of discovery of companies. It provides facilities to create sets and it also permits automation of repetitive processes.
When ProwessIQ is used, the ProwessIQ executable software installed on the local computer downloads and updates the local installation with several masters. These masters are downloaded automatically and they are essential for the running of ProwessIQ.
The user interface consists of five workspaces. Understanding these is the key to exploiting Prowess optimally. These lay down the rules of the querying system, the processing system, and the generation of reports and charts. There is a system in the method by which ProwessIQ works. This system is explained in detail by us. We recommend that the user understands this system. Because once the system is understood endless possibilities open up for the user.

How to Access
This is the Web version of erstwhile Prowess (LAN version). If you are using this web version first time, you are required to configure your computer. Please follow the instructions below:
1. Click on the title or go to prowessiq.cmie.com
2. Use the “Download” option (in the third panel of the screen) to download the interfacing software and install as par instructions.
3. If you are already registered with any other CMIE databases, you can use the same user-id and password to access the database. Otherwise, please register yourself.
